Term
Meaning
Space
The core planning element: a placed room, area, or department with a boundary, a type, and program data.
Space type
A reusable definition (name, default dimensions, color, default contents) that spaces are instances of, e.g. "Exam Room."
Program requirement
How much of a space type you need: count, target areas, gross-up factor. All requirements together are your space program.
Program group / department
A named grouping of requirements, optionally nested, used for tracking and color coding.
Program panel
The requirements list on the right side of the canvas: add, import, search, and drag requirements into the plan.
Metrics panel
The live numbers on the right side of the canvas: net/gross areas, gross-up factors, breakdowns, and counts.
Capsule menu
The pill-shaped toolbar that appears next to any selected element, holding its actions (Edit Shape, Walls, Add Clearance, level, mirror, pin, three-dot menu).
Main menu
The menu button in the top-left corner: project commands, units, Import, Export, Tutorials, feedback.
Underlay
Reference material placed in the project to plan over: a CAD file (DXF/DWG), image, PDF, or laser scan.
Building
A floor plate boundary that contains spaces and defines gross floor area.
Level
A horizontal slice of the project; every element belongs to one. New buildings start with a single level.
Circulation
Corridor paths drawn (or generated) between spaces; its area is tracked separately from spaces.
Clearance
A reserved open area attached to furniture, equipment, or a space (default: 5 ft / 2 m turning circle). Turns red when violated. Paid feature.
Conflict
A flagged overlap, e.g. a blocked door swing or clearance. Can be accepted (burst icon) when intentional.
Suggestion
An automatic furnished-layout proposal for a space, driven by the space's name and size; sources are Hypar defaults, your libraries, and layouts already in the project.
Library
A saved collection of spaces or furniture for reuse across projects. Personal (only you) or Group (your whole team); can be a named library. Paid feature.
Component / FF&E
A placed piece of furniture or equipment.
Flexible component
A generic box or cylinder used as a stand-in when no 3D family exists; nameable and reusable.
CAD component
A 2D CAD block (DXF/DWG) imported as placeable furniture.
Design option
A parallel version of the plan within one project, with its own metrics (and optionally its own requirements). Paid feature.
Diagram mode
The abstract "bubble diagram" lens, still fully editable.
Walkthrough
Eye-level 3D navigation mode (Ctrl/Cmd+7).
Copy dot
The duplication control on a selected element; dragging its arrow creates an evenly spaced array.
Pin
Locks an element in place so it can't be moved accidentally; deleting a pinned element asks for confirmation.
Live link
A view-only share link ("Anyone with the link"). Paid feature.
Net area
Sum of space areas, measured from the inside face of walls.
Gross floor area
Floor plate area from the building boundary, per level.
Gross-up factor
The multiplier between net and gross area, reported at building and department level.
Hypar Revit add-in
The Revit plugin connecting Hypar and Revit (Revit 2020–2027): Load Project (Hypar β†’ Revit) and Send Selection to Hypar (Revit β†’ Hypar).

Last verified against Hypar v0.2.019 (July 10, 2026).
